Referring to the interview accorded by you to the Superintendent, Eastern Extension Telegraph Company last

Saturday, we have the honour to inform you that our

Shanghai Offices have replied as follows:

2. "No objection Companies' part to Hong Kong

Government's proposed action."

In accordance with your verbal request we beg

to append the service telegram despatched by us on

Saturday afternoon.

4. "23rd 2.15 p.m. Joint. Extension Superintendent

just seen Colonial Secretary who informs that with

change of Government Peking, Canton Desirous pressing

claim to nominate Official in Charge Hong Kong Office

stop Secretary Colonies London has no objection to Hong

Kong resident by name Kong Siu Lui being so nominated

by Canton and accepted by Hong Kong Government under old

conditions and title (not commercial agent, vide our L/OY March) provided Telegraph Companies acquiesce."
